      • People who own pets know what heartache it can be to lose them. They are like family, they become part of your daily life and you love them with all your heart.

Unfortunately last Thursday I had to let me sweet 16 year old cat go and it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. :(

My Bubba was a big orange dumpy adorable polydactyl Maine Coon, like a little bear, and he was the cutest and best cat I have ever had. In October of 2012 he got Feline Diabetes, and with a short round of insulin, a high protein low carb diet he went into remission within just a few weeks. Over the course of 2013 he had other health problems and was never quite the same as he was before the Diabetes, but he was doing very well.

Over the last few weeks we noticed he had lost weight and was having problems walking. Somehow his Diabetes had returned with more intense neuropathy, but this time it was much more than that. He had also developed highly malignant Lymphoma. Everything seemed to happen very quickly, at which point he was unable to walk…

I am thankful that I got to spend 2 more Christmases with him since October 2012, and much more time than I ever thought was possible. Still, it was not as long as I would have liked. I would have done anything for my sweet boy.

I still remember the day Bubba showed up out of nowhere on our doorstep as a tiny little kitten all those years ago, begging to come inside. He was unlike any cat I have ever had. He was not skillful, he snored, he was much larger than most cats, he made eye contact the way humans do, and he liked to be put over my shoulder like a baby. These are the memories I choose to remember. He was amazing, fun, beautiful, affectionate, and clingy (almost like a dog). He was my best friend.

The house is very quiet now. I work from home so the emptiness I am feeling is that much stronger. I miss his cute meows, spying on me around corners, taking care of him, and his overall presence. I miss him tremendously.

Forever in my heart, my sweet Bubba. <3

      • Design Update: Designers are Meant to be Loved

As designers we are constantly creating, perfecting, making changes. It’s in our blood, and sometimes it can drive others crazy. From time to time, I like to take a look at my inventory and occasionally frequently have flashes of brilliance on how I can improve a design. (If I had more time, I would do this way more often than I actually do).

Today’s revision is a simple one, my Designers Oscar Journal. To see the previous version, check it out here. I’ve been wanting to incorporate more black & white into my work with spots of color, and when I saw this black & white striped tape sitting neglected on my shelf among the others, I knew it was meant for this!

So there you have it. Simple clean design. Love it. If you’d like to snag this 100% post consumer recycled journal for a lovable designer in your life (including yourself, of course), you can find it here along with a fabulous pencil. With graduations coming up, it would make a nice gift set. Happy Wednesday! xo
